Rensler’s Revisited: Well… I Did Say Stranger Things Have Happened?!

RosaLee-RENSLER--2Early this morning I posted a few “non-related” Rensler Photography Studio images in the hope these Ancestors would eventually be noticed and reunited with a living descendant researching online. By this evening, to my surprise I had this comment to the blog:

“Wow! This is an unexpected surprise Rosia Lee Barwick! This is the aunt that I heard about but never saw her image until now. She was sickly and passed away in her youth is all I know of her. She was definitely a Barwick and very very lovely! This is indeed touching. Regards, Greg”

Greg is the youngest son of my Great-Aunt Hannah BARWICK SLAUGHTER. Aunt Hannah and William Charles BARWICK (my Grandfather) were siblings. The Rosia Lee BARWICK Greg is referencing is their younger sister who died as a young girl!

Now, neither I nor Greg have ever seen a picture of Rosia/Rosie Lee. Sure her features look McKENZIE/BARWICK and several of the Rensler images of the BARWICK siblings feature the same pedastal, but to be 100% sure we need validation. And the only folks alive to confirm this is our Rosia Lee are in Cincinnati — my 92.5 and 91.5 year old Great Aunts Hannah and Lena BARWICK, Rosia’s older sisters!

So what’s a genea-sleuth to do?! The scan of Rosia Lee will be in the mail first thing tomorrow morning for confirmation!:)

The coolest thing about this whole thing, should my Aunts confirm this is our Rosia Lee, is that I’d never seen the 3 images posted this morning or even knew they were coming before Brad sent them […]

ANCESTORS: Rensler’s Studio Images {Not Related}

Rensler's Photography StudioRensler’s Photography Studio {605 and 925 Vine Street} in Cincinnati, Ohio  was one of few studios willing to photograph African-American people at the turn of the century. After 83 years in business, Rensler’s closed its doors in 1989.

Both my Cincinnati (BARWICK & MCKENZIE descent) and Washington-Wilkes (WINGFIELD & DORSEY descent) Ancestors were photographed there, and I’ve been blessed to inherit many of their images that are so special to me.

Due to my interest in these rare vintage images, I’ve also been blessed to “inherit” Rensler images of Ancestors who though not related to me, are also very special. I would love to place these images in the hands of their descendants!

I’ll continue to post as I get them in the hope a face or name will spark familiar with one of my visitors, and we’ll be able to send these Ancestors home. I’ve been researching a VERY long time, trust me… stranger things have happened!:)
