About Luckie
Luckie Daniels is a descendant of emancipated slaves from Washington-Wilkes Georgia.
Shortly after the passing of her Maternal Grandmother, Fannie Louella Jackson Barwick, Luckie began her journey to preserve the memory of her family history by establishing OurGeorgiaRoots.com in 1997.
Luckie is also busy discovering more about her Alabama {by way of Cincinnati} roots via OurAlabamaRoots.com!
By day, a Sr. IT Project Manager, Luckie is committed to genealogy preservation and utilizing all the benefits modern day technology affords in this effort.
Luckie is a Conductor, of A Friend of Friends, a repository for slave documents donated and shared through the concept and ideals behind a movement that is spreading throughout the genealogy community — continuing the work of the Underground Railroad in 21st Century fashion.
She invites you to join her on the journey of digging-up our ancestral roots – together!
Lest we forget…

Dear Lucke,
My cousins and I have been involved in our ancestral quest for three years and are often frustrated. I just happened to come across your absolutely wonderful and informative website and, thanks to you, have received my second wind. You are so right when you indicated that as African Americans we do not have the luxury of going back to the ship that brought us over to determine our ancestry. Our quest, though, is quite unusual. We were able to go back to those who owned our ancestors. The uniqueness of our problem is that we can only located relatives into the 1950s and 60s who then resided in Augusta, Georgia. Our grandfather came to NYC in 1900 and never really knew the sibblings of his father who lived very briefly in NYC, returned to Augusta and left his three oldest children to be raised by the sisters of his first wife (another interesting tale, believe me).
We have become very active on many blogs in hopes of finding some long lost relatives (we did find some that live right here in NYC) but we re really trying to find some Evans, Whiteheads, Hughes, Jenkins and Harrisons who may have ancestors from Burke County, then migrated to Hephzibah then to Augusta. By a real fluke of good fortune we were able to identify one of our great gradfather’s sisters (we never knew her married name) and traced her descendents to Chicago.
We aren’t giving up and collectively thank you for beig a source of inspiration.
Continue to be a blessed and being a blessing to many.
Rita

You are doing right by getting involved with what’s happening online. Do you have a blog up already?
As you can see from my posts, above all else Genealogy is a lesson in patience. Take your time & listen to your instincts…
Also know this, there are no “flukes” when it comes to the Ancestors, that was them guiding your way!:-)

I would like to make contact on behalf of Miss Ruby Macie Greer or Grayer of Sandersville, Washington County, Georgia. Miss Ruby is now known as MOTHER MOHAMMED of Sacramento, CA, she is now the Mother of Islam. I live in Madera, CA and I am amateur genealogist, Mother Ruby asked me to help her learn of her biological Mother’s Family, and the only information she can remember is that her Birth Mother’s first name was Rosa Lee or Rosalie, a unwed teen mother in 1897. Miss Ruby was born in March 1897 and is now 113 years old or older, not sure. Her health is fairly good and she just wants to know who “she really is before she is called onto glory”. I am not able to get to Georgia to look for any records of her Families History, but her Father was Lee Greer and his Mother or her Grandmother, was Mrs. Dilsie Greer. They do appear on the 1910 US Federal Census for Sandersville, Washington County, GA and there is even a 17 year old Girl, in the same Precinct area, named “Rosalee Whitfield”, of which I believe that may be her birth mother. Miss Ruby knows that her birth mother died shortly after her birth and she was raised by an Aunt in Plains, Georgia. I could not find any mention of a Rosalee or Rosalie on the 1920 Census, but I did locate her Family Line without her listed. I am asking with the most urgent request that I can on behalf of Miss Ruby for your assistance, IF, at all possible because time is of the essence for her and I would like to know that she was blessed to learn of the information that she truly wants and needs to know to make her feel whole and complete. Thank You, Gloria Brown, Madera, CA 559-363-5444
Hello, As a historian of Georgia, I spend a great deal of time on your site. My wife and my children are direct descendants from Archibald S. Wingfield by way of his grandson William C. Wingfield. Your site has really helped them to better see and understand their special place in history. Keep up the Good work- oh and how could I get in touch with Mrs. Carr?
Very nice to meet you RG! Descendants of Archibald Wingfield following my blog? Wow!:-)
Thanks for the compliment, my research is truly a labor of love & my Washington-Wilkes Ancestors are very close to my heart.
I have not had contact with your Cousin Wilsie in years. The last time I inquired, I was told that both she & her husband were very ill & that Wilsie no longer attended the Wingfield Annual Reunion.
My suggestion would be to send an email through http://www.Wingfield.org with an inquiry.
Best,
Luckie.
Hello, my name is Ebony Joy Eppes-Nails. I am writing because I have been told all my life that my Mother (Mary Ann Blackshear {Kenny, Eppes}), Aunt (Rita Finch), and Uncles (Waymon Sims, Chester {Bobby}Kenny, Frederick Finch, Jessie {Timmy}Finch, and John {Richard}Finch parents were Boltons. Their mother (my grandmmother) name was Mary Neal Bolton, her parents were James(Jimmy)Bolton and Annie Bolton. Unfortunately, my mom, brothers and sister lost their mother at a young age, she was 42 when she died. My mother was 16 years old when this happen. The children were then all left to be raised by their Grandparents James and Annie Bolton. Shortly after, James and Annie Bolton died, leaving the children with the only link to their history lost. We have traveled back to Athens where they lived several times, but never seem to find anyone who can tell us they knew Mary Neal Bolton or her parents. I got some history from a man today that led me to research in Oglethorpe, not Athens. This is how I pulled this link up. Please let me know if any one can help me further in completing are Family Tree Mystery. The family is so very interested in meetings other Boltons or those related and who may be able to shed some light on our family history.
Thanks in advance,
Joy Nails
Great blog! Warm sentiments and well designed. Please visit liberianrepatriates.com to access a database and stories on 15,000+ African-American emigrants to Liberia, many from Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.
hello
My name is Essie Peterson- Hudson the daughter of the late Rosa Lee Dickey- Peterson. I have been searching for some information about the Dickey family for about 12 years now. My grandson and I ran across your website in hope that we will find what we are looking for and found some stuff but was a little confused. I would love to know more about the Dickey family and their roots from the beginning up until now. I really thank you for what you have given me so far and want to thank you in advance for your assistance in my quest for my ancestry knowledge.

Amazing website. This is a really interesting and significant way of connecting and (re)creating community. In my initial research, it appears that I am descendant on Favors who lived in the Washington/Wilkes area of Georgia and who intermarried with the Young/Tolbert family from near Anderson, SC. Eventually they ended up in Oberlin, OH around the turn of the century.
I can’t wait to get past some of my other work duties to really delve into all you have going on here. That said, I’m also writing about that discusses the idea of slave history as a tourist attraction. If you might be interested in discussing that idea with me, I would love to talk with you.
Thanks so much for your work on this topic, and it’s great to run across someone of similar origins.
Marty
